Here’s what Ray wrote: “Truly heaven on earth. The best listing in the Western Cape and best value for money. We had no issues from start to end and enjoyed every moment. Our Labrador got on well with the other farm dogs and thoroughly enjoyed being chased by the donkeys. With the indoor fireplace we barely felt the winter chill and the cottage gives enough privacy with a most beautiful flowering garden for afternoon naps.”

And in private feedback, he also said: “Hi Ali and Claude! A heartfelt thank you for opening up your space to us. Truly heaven on earth. We had no issues from start to end and enjoyed every moment. We will definitely be back in the summer ...”

"What a special find - Sunflower Cottage at Blommekloof Country Cottages was more than we expected. A dozen fresh free range eggs on arrival and a beautiful cottage with everything one could need for a lovely relaxing peaceful weekend away to recharge, reconnect and restore. We loved it - comfy beds, a fantastic stoep and braai area and the gorgeous indoor fireplace with wood and kindling was an absolute winner on the cold winter nights. Thanks so much to Claude and Ali for sharing your beautiful space with us - we loved it. I can highly recommend a visit here - it's quiet, it's peaceful, it's beautiful and just all round an absolute GEM!"

Yes, we’re very pet-friendly at Blommekloof, and we’re thrilled that Rachel Moncrieff-Robinson wrote about it in Getaway’s article, ‘12 pet-friendly stays on the Garden Route.’ (Published online on 10 March, 2019)

“The best thing Rachel Moncrieff-Robinson did was get a dog; the second best thing was taking Valentino, her Maltese cross, on road trips with her, which she has been doing for the past 10 years. Have you heard the one* about the guy who asked if he could bring his dog with him to a hotel?

"He is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?" he wrote.

"I've been operating this hotel for many years," replied the owner. "In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, or silverware, or take pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill.

"So yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel.

"And if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too."

Veld fires update - 3 May 2017

The past week has been one long, long, long firefighting one. The biggest fire ever in this area for over 20 years apparently... thousands of hectares burnt, and still burning.

Thankfully, so far, Blommekloof is still relatively safe, and I only say that because the fire in the kloof has yet to be contained and it creeps closer every night when the choppers can't water bomb, and the winds pick up. I woke in the early hours of this morning hardly able to breath, and come sunrise could not see more than a few meters due to the smoke just hanging....... so one does not know how close the fire really is - though its smell is acrid and strong, and this am i could not hear it "crackling" as I could before. Claude and others were able to stop it 2 nights ago about 500m from us...... but the next wave comes driven by strong winds and just jumps the roads and firebreaks.

The drought has left everywhere tinder dry and at night you watch the trees literally explode like fireworks! I can hear the spotter plane now flying over to see where to direct the chopper for todays work! The firefighters are dead tired but cheery and dedicated, and it is only because of them that we get any shut eye at all.

It was a horrid long weekend of relocating and evacuating guests on top of worrying about the dogs, cat, sheep, cows and other peoples horses that were evacuated to here, but the generosity of other farmers, whom we don't even know, and the kindness of strangers always seems to shine at times like these, and everything gets sorted and settled. & In this valley alone we have lost about 3 or 4 homes that I know of, a couple of barns and outbuildings - but there is much much more to it, the cost of fencing, loss of grazing, and general devastation, it must run into millions and millions. Here are a few random pics I took whilst going to check on my friend June, who was surrounded by fire at one time from every direction, and whose home, like many was saved by the brave firefighters who stood their ground and saved the homes.

Lets hope that it is brought under control or peters out as it back-burns against itself in the next few days, and out of this will come rebirth, regrowth and a whole lot of unexpected beauty...... plus the reminder of the awesome people who pulled together and helped and just got in there and did it! You won't know them but people like Pam + Sally, Henry Meyer, Craig and his daughter, and many many others, coordinating, mustering teams, passing on vital info and holding the whole WhatsApp group together and informed. We could not have done it without you!

"We spent a wonderful time in these cottages, very well decorated and fully equipped, you can definitely feel at home there. The surroundings are very calm, relaxing and beautiful. We went there with our two kids and they've enjoyed a lot watching the cows, the gooses and the chicken running away. Definitely, we will never forget Claude as he tried everything he could (and he succeed!!) to repair our car which was broken down in Blommekloof, even if that's mean spending 5 hours lying down on the floor under the car with 35° around. What a magnificent lesson of perseverance it has been for all of us. Thank you so much." (Claire Bossard, visited April 2015)
